Trendy herringbone tiling in the shower with gold fittings..
So with this project it all started when our client noticed a leak showing on the ceiling in their kitchen downstairs.
Prior to our work they had a wet-room which, unfortunately failed, rotting the timber sub floor below.
So our best solution was to remove the wet-room and fit a low profile stone shower tray.
During the the bathroom installation we fitted a niche into the wall.
At this time it was during lock-down and we've happy for us to work, provided we follow the governments distancing guidelines, of which we did.
Herringbone wall tiling
With regards to the herringbone tiling, it takes at least twice as long tiling as it would fitting the tiles in brick-bond. Setting out is very important. I've found the best way to set out herringbone tiling is as follows..
Ensure walls are level and plumb where possible.
The centre line isn't the edge of the tile it is where the diagonals intersect.
With a set on the corner of a tile mark a 45' line.
Now measure from the line to the other corner.
Half this size and now offset the centre line by this amount.
Now measure the height and half it.
Next set out some tiles to equal the above measurement.
Then work out where the last tile goes and transfer this size of the horizontal centre line and fix a batten level along this line.
Now we are ready to lay the tiles, get a lazer line along our new centre line and fit all the full tiles.
once the first row is laid, it is vital you check in-between with a square.
Every few rows keep checking that is is square like below;
My client opted for mosaic hexagon tiles to fill the gap where the leaking wet-room started and I think it works well We also repainted to bathroom, tiled the bath panel and bath splashbacks. We also done some plastering and painting in another room as part of the project. Once completed we removed all floor protection, hoovered and cleaned up and made our working area spotless. We then got our licensed waste disposal team in to dispose of all building waste and materials. Another extremely happy customer :)
